Burma/Myanmar Cyclone Disaster …. we have a remarkable opportunity to help directly. Burma is one of the most closed, repressive nations on earth – and now faces a catastrophic disaster. What can we do, how we can know it will help? Our church supports a great mission center in New Haven , the Overseas Ministries Study Center (David Rowe serves as President of its Board). This year OMSC has hosted 4 pastors from Burma , who return there next week. They will bring our money with them and put it to work personally. If you wish to help, give/send a check a.s.a.p. made out to GHCC, earmarked for Burma – or give it to David on Sunday.
Looking ahead to Memorial Day...
- Care Packages for Soldiers -- In April and May we will again collect items requested by soldiers, working with two local agencies who are putting together care packages. These will be dedicated on Memorial Day Sunday (May 25)
- 'War Memorial Sunday' -- On May 25, the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, we will dedicate our Sunday worship as a memorial service for those killed in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. This will be at both services.
CHURCH HOUSE and Capital Campaign: Phase 2 of our Capital Campaign is underway to raise the final $1 million. We have received pledges of $100,000 already. Also, tours of the Church House are available after each Sunday Service. The formal dedication will be June 22!

This Sunday: On this Mother’s Day weekend… In light of the tragic murder of young Kyle Schneider last week, David’s sermon will help us to see the ways in which God’s love can work through each of us in ways very much like a mother – this is the road to being the best home, the best community, the best nation we can be. (A reminder that there is no Church School this Sunday, because of the Dogwood Festival activities).
Then, at 11:30 , on the front steps of the church, we will have the first annual ‘ Dogwood Festival Blessing of the Animals’ ! Bring your goldfish, horse, cat, turtle, dog, hamster – and all the deer you can find!
