Greenfield Hill Church believes in reaching out … and reaching in … sharing our gifts and compassion with a world in need … and sharing our gifts of love and service to our church family, too. There are many ways to serve! Scroll down for ways to be involved … or contact any church staff member to talk about the gifts you wish to offer.

CHURCH LIFE

Compassion Group: Our newest outreach program the Compassion Group's aim is to provide a helping hand and loving outreach to members of our own church community, as well as occasional projects for the community at large.
There are two ways church members can help us out! First - you can let us know of anyone in our church family that you think needs a little 'TLC' ... a card, a meal, a visit. And secondly, we welcome you to be part of the Compassion Group, too! Whatever your time and gifts, we will work with it. To get involved, contact Jennifer Marcus or Brenda Steele.

View Compassion Group pictures on the Photo Gallery page.

Ushering:
Like People? Like Church? Be an Usher! Ushering is a great way to get to know people - and a very important part of our Sunday morning worship. We have a continuing need for women and men to usher - both on a seven week rotating schedule and as substitutes for both Sunday worship services ... if you could lend a hand, please drop an e-mail to David or Kathy Banks, our Ushers Chairpersons. Current ushers: click here to view Usher Schedule.

Chancel Choir: Sandra Murphy, our choir director, welcomes new voices throughout the year. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the Parlor, preparing for Sunday morning worship at 10:15. You are welcome to come when you can! E-mail Sandra Murphy or call (203) 259-2119.

Men's Chorus: Our ‘just for fun’ choir for the men! The Men’s Chorus sings during the Advent season, and on Mother’s Day, as well as the Dogwood Festival and other special occasions. All men very welcome. E-mail Sandra Murphy or call (203) 259-2119.

Church School Teacher: Greenfield Hill takes great pride in its team of teachers, with three teachers assigned to each grade level in a rotating schedule throughout the year. To learn more about working with our kids, please e-mail Marcia Carothers, Christian Education Director.

Adult Advisor for YPF, JPF, and SPF: Our "Youth Programs" page will tell you more about our exciting youth fellowship program, for youth from grades 5 through 12. If working with our teens sounds like fun to you, please e-mail Rev. Alida Ward.

Adult Participant in Appalachia Service Project: Each year, 80 – 100 teenagers from our youth programs participate in the Appalachia Service Project, a week of home repair ministry in late June – July. If you would like to be a part of this caring ministry to families in need, please e-mail Rev. Alida Ward.

Hill Church News
Volunteers are needed for approximately two hours, once a month (Fridays), to help prepare the Hill Church News for mailing. If you can help, please contact JoAnne Stanley at the Church Office (259-5596).

In the Community:

Serving meals in local soup kitchens
Church members provide the evening meal at the Operation Hope Shelter on the
first Wednesday of every month, and new volunteers are always welcome! Call Dawn Kreitler at 256-8667 or e-mail Dawn Kreitler .

On the
first Mondays of each month, our youth fellowships cook and serve dinner at St. George’s church in Bridgeport. You are welcome to join with them! E-mail Rev. Alida Ward for more information.

Fair Share Table: Each Saturday and Sunday, a Greenfield Hill member or family collects unneeded food from the Westport Stop and Shop and delivers to two soup kitchens in Bridgeport … a hands-on, tangible way to get food to where it’s needed most. To sign up for one of these runs, e-mail Pam Dies .

Habitat for Humanity: A crew of workers from Greenfield Hill spends a Saturday a month swinging hammers for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bridgeport. To join the fun, e-mail GHCCHabitat, or go directly to Habitat's web site.

School Volunteer Association: Whether tutoring a child every week, or reading to a class once or twice a month, working in the Bridgeport school system is a wonderful way to change a child’s life right now. Many Greenfield Hill church members have been involved over the years: you, too, can be, by contacting the SVA of Bridgeport. SVA service opportunities
